Professional Growth and The Airdrie 2020 Alberta Winter Games

Contract: May 2019 - April 2020

My role with the Airdrie 2020 Games was short but incredibly sweet. I began as a Social Media Coordinator in May 2019 and by September, I was Manager of Creative and Information Services. I wore many hats and balanced many portfolios. Some of which were: Social Media Management, Website Updates, Digital Marketing, Writing and Editing, Photography, and Media. All while supporting Sponsor Stewardship, Event Promotion, and working closely with our provincial partners.

The Games ran from February 14-17, 2020 and Airdrie welcomed 6000+ visitors to the city. There were 16 sports hosted in Airdrie, Calgary, and Canmore and everything came down to putting on a great event for the young athletes competing that weekend.

I created the Participant Handbook for all athletes, coaches, and parents to reference during the Games. This included the accumulation of information, editing, design, and printing of the book. Having been my first big design experience, I followed the guidance of a Graphic Designer and friend, and I quickly learned the basics of Adobe XD.

We were focused on getting the community involved. As part of this plan, I created a Social Media Influencer Program where I hired a few local influencers to work with us in engaging with the community and promoting the Games. We also offered our Sponsors a chance to takeover our Instagram page to promote themselves and their involvement in the Games. While social media was a large part of marketing, we also had print ads and magnet signs throughout the community.

Having met so many incredible people and having been inspired by many leaders and role models, my experience with the Games tops many others. I learned so much professionally and personally during my time with the Games and I am fortunate to have this experience in my books.
